Price avoided arbitration with the Tigers in January by signing a one-year deal worth $19.75 million. Both sides would like to reach an extension, but it appears unlikely to happen before the season starts.
Price went 15-12 with a 3.26 ERA between the Rays and Tigers, striking out 271 batters.
With Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander on the books for mega-deals, it will be hard for the Tigers to justify signing Price to anything long-term, unless he’s willing to sign something in the four- to five-year range.
