The film will be coming out later this year, most likely after Dead Rising 2 comes out. Zombrex will be cut up into eight individual episodes and dubbed in English, French, German, and Italian from the native language of Japanese.
I’ve always been a fan of the zombie genre in any standard of media. Despite the staggering amount of horrible zombie games and movies, the walking dead usually provide a fun and interesting premise or twist on a story. The plot for Dead Rising 2 looks interesting and does take advantage of the more interesting part of any zombie story: the survivors and how they individually deal with the outbreak. Opposedly, zombies have been pretty overused as a plot device or villains. There have been very few intellectual properties that have successfully come out that manage to actually stand above and beyond from the hordes that are among us already.
Video games have been tapped more often for film plots, with Prince of Persia turning out to be the highest grossing video game film of all time and actually not being all that bad. No one can argue that video game films have potential to be better. Yet when a property like World of Warcraft turns into a film (albeit directed by Sam Raimi), it does leave me in a bit of doubt. On the flip side, when a property like Kane & Lynch coming out, I don’t feel as saddened. Video game movies are becoming the new comic book movies and it doesn’t look like Hollywood is going to give up ready-made movies quite yet.
And don’t forget that Dead Rising 2: Case Zero will be coming to Xbox 360 in the coming months. Case Zero acts as an introduction to the protagonist Chuck Greene and his first encounter with the zombie horde. Players will also be able to level up to 5 and carry over their rank and cash earned to the final product.
Dead Rising 2 will be invading the fake Strip with real zombies on August 21, 2010 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
