In Dreams, players take control of an “imp” with either the regular controller or the PlayStation Move to interact with the game world and fill it with characters and items that the player makes themselves. While players are obviously encouraged to come up with their own ideas, it’s not that surprising to see recreations. What is surprising is how accurate recreations like the Dead Space one are to the original source material.
While it’s obviously not the whole game and there’s only 30 seconds of footage, the feedback received shows how much care went into making this level look like it could be from a Dead Space title. However, it’s very unlikely that we’ll see this evolve into anything beyond these 30 seconds since the users responsible have broken the game’s NDA, which stated that users weren’t allowed to share any of their creations online. Plus, with it being an almost replica of an existing IP, there’s always the worry that lawyers could get involved.
Another thing to take away from all this is how much fans want to see a new Dead Space title, which sadly seems to be nothing more than a dream at this point since developer Visceral Studios were shut down by EA.
Last year, fans were given a glimpse at what a potential Dead Space 4 would have looked like, courtesy of an interview with the series’ creative director, who described it as a non-linear survival experience that would have featured a brand new protagonist.
Dreams will release exclusively on the PS4 sometime this year.
