Activision is no stranger to remasters either, for not long ago the publisher indicated they would be revamping Prototype 1 and 2 for next-gen consoles, and now they are promising that their hack-and-slash title centered around Marvel’s “Merc with a Mouth”, Deadpool, will get the same treatment. As it happens, Deadpool is set to be an HD re-release with its availability on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One slated for the fall.
In addition to the base game, the updated version of Deadpool will provide fans with all of the third-person action title’s original DLC, including two Challenge maps – “GRT Plaza” and “Inside the Tower” – as well as the titular character’s Uncanny X-Force and D-Pooly skins. Not to mention, the release’s most popular feature “Infinite Mode” is returning, where players fend off endless waves of enemies with no time limit.
Today’s news comes after Activision pulled the Marvel anti-hero’s game from Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam a couple of years ago, and then recently decided to bring Deadpool back to PC via Valve’s online marketplace last month. However, there hasn’t been much fanfare regarding either reports, which is probably due to the fact that it got a lukewarm reception with middling reviews.
Undoubtedly, the Santa Monica-based gaming publisher is throwing a fresh coat of paint on Deadpool in order to generate some extra revenue for the title, hoping the buzz surrounding 2016’s film of the same name starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson will bleed over into attention for the game. Nevertheless, the Deadpool re-release will have a $50 price tag, and will be available for purchase on November 17, 2015.
At any rate, it’s certainly strange that High Moon Studios’ Deadpool is being given another go. Although Activision will likely make enough money back in order to justify the remaster of the Marvel character’s game, they would probably do better to heed fans’ Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remake petition, and focus efforts there instead.
Deadpool is available now for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and as previously mentioned, its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports is set to launch on November 17, 2015.
