That should not be a huge surprise considering that this game is from Hideo Kojima, who is known for his complex and off-the-wall narratives in the Metal Gear Solid series. Reedus, who plays the protagonist of Death Stranding, said even though fans have pieced together a lot of hints and Easter eggs found in the trailers, they still have not been fully representative of the game:

Many people joked after Death Stranding’s E3 2018 trailer that the game may just be a “walking simulator” based on the gameplay footage that was shown off at that time, but Reedus said in the same interview with Metro that the game’s concept is “so far out in the future” and that it appears to go against common game concepts:

It’s unknown when the game will come more into focus with more trailers or gameplay considering that Sony said it’s skipping E3 this year. With Death Stranding being a PlayStation exclusive, E3 is usually where such a high-profile game would be shown off next, so predicting when more of the game will be shown is a bit of a mystery at this point.

While many have been hopeful that Death Stranding would be out in 2019, recent comments from Kojima himself make it sound as though the game may not release for quite some time. Either way, no matter what exactly the game ends up being, many eyes are on Kojima’s next game, which is his first since his split from Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami.

Death Stranding is currently in development exclusively for PS4.
